Innovation Plan for transport and BIM infrastructures

De la Serna announces an Innovation Plan for transport and infrastructures.

It is expected to be completed before the end of the year
Fomento has created a Directorate General of Transformation and Innovation for this

The Minister of Development, Íñigo de la Serna, announced today that his department is preparing an Innovation Plan for transport and infrastructure, which is expected to be completed before the end of this year.

During his speech at a conference held in Barcelona on the sustainability of infrastructure, the head of the department has also indicated that a Directorate General of Transformation and Innovation has been created for this purpose, within the structure of Ineco.

De la Serna explained that it is a digitization program that will include aspects related to technology applied to transport management and infrastructure, as well as the BIM methodology.
Building Information Modeling

The BIM is a work methodology conceived for the creation and management of building and civil works projects that allows to centralize all the information in a digital model.

De la Serna has highlighted the role played by the Ministry of Development through Ineco, which is part of the European Group of public administrations which has been commissioned to develop a manual of common practices in

the implementation of the BIM methodology .

In this sense, De la Serna has indicated that the commitment is to become an obligation in each and every one of the processes that are carried out in the Ministry of Development.

As proof of this, the owner of Development has indicated that this process has been launched in some successful experiences.

The first of them by Aena at the El Prat Airport in Barcelona, which already has BIM specifications.

In addition, it is expected that this methodology will also be implemented at the airport in Mallorca and in Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas.

On the other hand, De la Serna pointed out that one of the fundamental elements of BIM is that it will improve the elements linked to the sustainability of infrastructures, guaranteeing permanent monitoring of their maintenance and increasing transparency in the management of projects.

In the framework of his speech, the owner of Development has added that this initiative is one of the best examples of joint work between the public and private sectors.

He also stressed that Spain has to be at the forefront in the implementation of this tool.
