What is the Best Program BIM?

BIM seems that he finally is winning the battle to CAD. We saw this in our post BIM vs CAD we published a few days ago.

And after all wars always happens, the losers have to surrender to the victors or resign themselves to die. In this case the solution is not as radical fortunately because just about software.

The fact is that after a lifetime using CAD, AutoCAD normally, although there are “weirdos” using Allycad, Acceelicad, DesignCAD, Paint? It’s time to jump into BIM and the first question that comes to us is what BIM program is best? Or ArchiCAD does Revit? ¿Allplan perhaps?

At this point it is normal to ask that question because everyone too lazy to learn to use new software and we want to be sure that our investment in time and money is probably as accurate as possible, logical.

That is why today we will make an analysis of the BIM programs, what are its advantages and disadvantages so you can decide on the one that best suits your needs and make your best bet. Let us begin!

Best BIM programs

Although there are several programs that can use BIM to apply to architecture among them stand out in the market are primarily three:

  • Autodesk Revit
  • ArchiCAD
  • AllPlan

Other alternatives

While in this post we have tried to focus on the “Heavyweight” BIM there are also other programs that are worth mentioning.

  • Vectorworks: Like Allplan, Nemetschek belongs to the house. However, unlike Allplan, Vectorworks has Mac version.
  • Microstation
  • ACCA Software

The chose

¿ArchiCAD or Allplan? Does Revit or AutoCAD? ¿Vectorworks or Microstation? Choosing the software that work is not easy. The most important factors from our view are the price of the license, compatible with your operating system and use demand in the market, which is given by the overall performance of the program.

Similarly, depending on the office you will work with software or another and you have created a working system based on that particular program, so you learn the program will touch on duty. In addition depending on the continent or country is used plus one or another, for example Allplan is widely used in Germany while in the US it is virtually unknown. What is certain is that any of those mentioned above will be implemented.

It should be noted the particular case of Nemetschek, which has two programs that do the same Allplan and ArchiCAD, and the gradual loss of Allplan users can make in the future they decide to gamble everything for ArchiCAD. You never know.

Given these factors and our experience in publishing job, we’d bet heavily that the BIM program that will be imposed gradually as Autodesk Revit and ArchiCAD second option (or first if you use Mac). Or at least it looks like it will.

At this point we can summarize the election:

Or ArchiCAD does Revit?

It is the million dollar question and more debates originated in specialized forums. If you’ve been researching before you get here you have noticed that at each site take for one winner but overall the staff is not clarified.

We have responded to a series of questions to help you decide on one of the two, choose the one you choose will not go wrong in this case both are very good programs.

Which program has more number of users?

Revit is emerging as the standard of BIM software like it has done with Autocad, this is largely due to the strength of Autodesk marketing rather than the quality of the program itself. But that is not compatible with Mac is its biggest handicap to overthrow currently Archicad definitely.

What is easier to learn?

Practically the two have very similar learning curves. Although ArchiCAD probably slightly easier. Anyway it is not a factor that differentiates too.

What is more expensive?

The two ranges fairly similar prices but Revit is slightly more expensive than Archicad.

Which is better?

The best program for you will best master. Both are very powerful and very good programs that exist both in the market makes it mimic and improve in order to win this race.
